Loan It — Privacy Policy
Loan It is an app for keeping track of physical items you lend to other people, designed to keep your loan records under your control.
What Loan It stores on your device
Loan It stores the information you enter about your loans locally on your device, such as:
- item descriptions,
- borrower names,
- optional contact references,
- borrowed, due, and returned dates,
- return status,
- attached item photos, and
- app settings such as reminder and import/export preferences.
Loan records are stored in the app’s private local database. Photos you attach are stored in the app’s private file storage.
What Loan It uses the internet for
Loan It uses network access only for limited app functionality:
- looking up public book details from Open Library when you scan or enter an ISBN barcode, and
- communicating with Google Play Billing for optional Pro purchases and purchase restoration.
When Loan It looks up a book by ISBN, the ISBN is sent to Open Library so the app can retrieve matching book metadata.
What Loan It does not do
- No ads
- No sale of personal data
- No account required
- No behavioral marketing
- No third-party analytics or tracking libraries
Contacts, camera, photos, and reminders
Loan It may request access to device features only when needed for app functionality:
- Contacts access is used so you can choose a borrower from your contacts. Loan It reads the selected contact name for your loan record.
- Camera access is used for taking item photos and scanning book barcodes.
- Notification permission is used for due date reminders.
- Exact alarm permission may be requested so reminders can be delivered at the scheduled time.
- Reboot access is used to reschedule reminders after your device restarts.
These permissions are used for the features you choose to use.
When data may leave your device
Your loan data stays on your device unless you take an action that causes it to leave, such as:
- exporting your loan records to CSV or JSON,
- sharing an exported file,
- importing data from a file you select,
- scanning or looking up an ISBN, which sends the ISBN to Open Library, or
- making or restoring a Pro purchase through Google Play Billing.
Backups
Loan It works with Android’s built-in backup and device-transfer system so your records are not lost if you replace, reset, or restore your device:
- When you transfer to a new phone, your full loan records and attached photos can be moved directly to the new device.
- Your loan records are also included in Android’s cloud backup, so they can be restored on a new or reset device. Attached photos are excluded from cloud backup to keep it within Android’s size limits, so after a cloud restore your records return but photos taken on the previous device may not.
Android backups are encrypted by the operating system and governed by Android’s backup system and your Google Account settings. Whether cloud backup is active depends on your device settings.
Premium features
Loan It offers optional Pro features through Google Play Billing. Purchases and purchase restoration are handled by Google Play. Loan It does not see your payment card details. When you buy or restore a purchase, Google Play confirms your purchase status to the app, and Loan It stores purchase-related status locally so Pro features can be unlocked.
Google’s handling of payment information and purchase history is governed by Google Play’s own privacy practices.
Third-party services
Loan It uses the following third-party services for core functionality:
- Open Library, for optional ISBN book metadata lookup.
- Google Play Billing, for optional Pro purchases and purchase restoration.
These services may receive standard technical request data, such as IP address and request headers, as part of normal internet communication. Their privacy policies apply to that processing.
Your controls
You can delete loan records and attached images from within the app. You can also export your data if you want to keep your own backup or move your records.
Loan It is designed to help you keep track of what you lend while minimizing data collection and keeping your records under your control.
